WSOC: Lady Rams kick off season with 7-3 win

The Lady Rams outshot Jarvis Christian 27-9 in a high scoring game that left Texas Wesleyan with the 7-3 win at Martin Field.

Of the 27 shots, 18 were on goal with Tameir Grosvenor accounting for three goals with six shots on goal and two assists in the game. Grosvenor and Cara Zwilling also received yellow cards in the game as the Lady Rams had 13 fouls to Jarvis' four.

This is the fourth time the two teams have met with Texas Wesleyan winning every matchup.

The game started with the Lady Rams coming out shooting as Grosvenor and Lindsay Daugherty took shot after shot, but Jarvis goalie Hailey Rivera was able to get the saves before a Grosvenor shot hit home to give the Lady Rams the early 1-0 lead.

The Bulldogs came back with a Gabriela Benavides goal followed by an Emmalee Lopez goal just minutes later to take a 2-1 lead. The Lady Rams got back into the game with a Jennika Appelberg goal at the 43:10 mark to bring the game to a 2-2 tie as the first half ended.

It was the second half that saw the Lady Rams kick the game into gear. The Lady Rams scored five goals in the second period, including one from Grosvenor off of a penalty kick, the final goal of the game. Jarvis was only able to muster one more goal in the second period off of a penalty kick by Kayla Ochoa.

Mikayla Trevino scored two goals in the match while Mychaela Lott and Appelberg scored one each.

This was the Lady Rams' first win of the season. Texas Wesleyan plays Bethel College of Kansas at Martin Field in their next outing on Aug. 28.
