WBB: Lady Rams Beat Lions at Home 85-58

On Saturday, the #17 Texas Wesleyan Lady rams extended their lead in the Sooner Athletic Conference, defeating Southwestern Assemblies of God University at home, 85-58.

The Lady Rams were led by a strong cast of characters, with five players scoring in double digits. Senior Makayla Coy led the team, adding 18 points and 11 rebounds to record her 10th double-double of the season, while going a perfect 10-10 from the free throw line. Zarria Carter nearly joined Coy in the double-double column, adding 8 rebounds and scoring 14 points. Kertisa Amos scored 13 points, Savanna Smith scored 13 points, and Taryn Willis rounded out the double-digits scorers with 10 points.

From the start of the game, the Lady Rams secured the lead and never released it. After being outscored in the second quarter 14-15, the team came out of the locker room with their feet firmly on the gas. In the third and fourth quarters, the team combined for 16-37 (43%) from the field and 16-22 (73%) from the free throw line, outscoring the Lions 24-19 in the third quarter and 25-12 in the fourth quarter.

In addition to the starting five, the Lady Rams added 32 points off the bench. They also capitalized off the Lions' 22 turnovers, adding 25 points to the board from turnovers.

The Lady Rams also dominated the glass and the paint throughout the entire game. While outrebounding the Lions 27-23, the team combined to win the offensive glass battle 20-6. On the tails of strong rebounding, the Lady Rams added 27 second chance points to the Lions' 0.

With the win, the Lady Rams retain their spot on the top of the SAC standings, moving to 14-1 in conference and 20-2 overall.

The Lady Rams will complete their three-game home stand on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Sid Richardson Center as they take on the Southwestern Christian University Eagles.
