WBB: Lady Rams beat No. 25 MACU at home

Lady Rams extend win streak to 11 games

The Lady Rams overcame and beat No. 25 Mid-America Christian University 82-74 through the excellent defense in the second half, which saw the Lady Rams hold MACU to just 27 points.

The Lady Rams were able to jump out to an early 4-2 lead within the first couple of minutes of play. MACU was then able to go on a 16-3 run that saw the lead turn into an 18-7 deficit with about four minutes left in the first frame.

 Taryn Wills was able to bring the Lady Rams within 8 points after Wills layup that got the score to 20-12. However, MACU went on another 5-1 run in the final minute of the first quarter, ending the quarter down 25-13.

Wills was able to make another layup on TXWES first possession of the second quarter, starting the Lady Rams on a streak of nine unanswered points. It was highlighted by a Zionna Barbee three-pointer with 8:10 remaining in the second quarter, pulling the Lady Rams within three points at 25-22.

About a minute later, Mayakla Coy connected on a three-pointer, bringing TXWES to within two points, 27-25, with 6:55 left in the first half.

MACU was able to go on another 13-2 run during the second, giving MACU their largest lead of the first half, 40-27, with about four minutes left in the quarter.

The Lady Rams were able to respond with a 7-1 run of their own, with a Kertisa Amos jump shot, cutting away at the lead 41-34 and ending the half by adding another Amos jump shot ending the half  43-37.

The Lady Rams came out with a purpose in the second half, with the Lady Rams going on a 10-0 run. After a Wills layup with 7:18 to go in the third quarter gave the Lady Rams their first lead of the game since early in the first quarter.

Following a MACU fast break and foul by the Lady Rams, MACU was able to regain the lead briefly.

TXWES was able to take the lead back from MACU on the next possession, after another Wills basket, except MACU was able to respond with a three-pointer of their own, putting the Lady Rams down by one point with 5:49 left.

From there, TXWES scored seven of the following nine points after an Amos three-pointer gave TXWES its largest lead to that point, 59-54, with about two minutes left in the quarter.

 The last two minutes of the quarter were played with the lead changing hands multiple times, finishing the quarter down by a point 63-62.

During the fourth quarter, the Lady Rams' defense was able to take control and see the Lady Rams scored six unanswered points in a four-minute stretch that saw TXWES take a 70-56 advantage after a Coy jump shot with 6:52 left in the game.

MACU was able to close the gap to within two points after a three-pointer with 5:41 left, except that is as close as the Lady Rams Would let them.

TXWES was able to close out the game by scoring seven of the game's last nine points, helped by going 7-8 from the free throw line, extending the win streak to 11 games TXWES beat MACU 82-74.

The Lady Rams were led by Kertisa Amos, who scored 27 points on 12-24 from the field, and six rebounds in 34 minutes of play. Two other Lady Rams scored in double figures, including Makayla Coy scoring 16 points, on 8-11 from the free throw line, and 14 rebounds in 33 minutes of play. Taryn Wills scored 15 points on 7-15 from the field in 26 minutes.

The SAC leading Lady Ram's next game will be on the road Jan. 5, against Central Christian College, with tip-off set for 6 PM in McPherson, KS.
