WBB: Lady Rams beat Langston on the road to extend their win streak

Texas Wesleyans Women's Basketball (14-1, 9-0 SAC) walks out of Langston, OK, with a win over Sooner Athletic Conference opponent the Langston University Lions (10-5, 5-4 SAC) and stays undefeated in conference play.
 
 The game is the fifth meeting between the two programs and favors Texas Wesleyan three games to one. The last time these two teams played was back on Feb. 7, 2022, in Langston, OK, and the Lady Rams walked away with a 92-85 win.
They extended their win streak to 13 games, three games shy of the school record of 16 games, during the 1978-79 season, from 11/24/78 to 1/23/79.
 
Makayla Coy was the leading scorer for Texas Wesleyan, scoring 34 points, shooting 4-8 (50%) from the field and 13-14 (92.86%) from the free throw line in 28 minutes of play. Taryn Wills scored 19 points and toughed out six rebounds to lead the Lady Rams in rebounds.
The Lady Rams had three other players score in double figures. Mary Nyakundi scored 13 points off the bench, Keara Felix scored 12 points, and Kertisa Amos contributed 11 points.
   
The Lady Rams opened the game by scoring on a pair of Coy free throws and never relinquished the lead to the Lady Lions during the game.

The glass was hot for the Lady Rams as they out-rebounded the Lions 39-33. Following Wills was Nyakundi, who nabbed five rebounds. Along with Coy and Felix, who each had four rebounds. The group accounted for 19 of the 39 total boards.
 
The Lady Rams also took advantage of their opportunities at the free throw line over the Lions. During the contest, the Lady Rams got to the charity line 40 times and converted the chance on 30 occasions.

Steller defense proved to be a significant factor in the contest. They forced the Lady Lions to 19 turnovers, which resulted in 15 points for the Lady Rams. Despite being out shot in the game by Langston, LU shot 32-60 (53.3%) compared to the Lady Rams shooting 29-68 (42.6%) from the field.

The next home game will be on Jan.12, when the Lady Rams host Wayland Baptist University in the Sid Richardson Center, with tip-off scheduled for 6 PM.
