GOODWELL, OK – On Tuesday, Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) narrowly defeated Texas Wesleyan University (TXWES)with a final score of 3-2 in an intense soccer clash.
The Rams (5-6-3, 1-4-1) had a late surge in the second half but couldn't overcome the early lead established by the Aggies (5-6-1, 1-5-0).
Oklahoma Panhandle State took the lead early in the first half, with David Vargas scoring the opening goal at 26:02, assisted by Mauricio De Santiago. Shortly after, Darrel Yetedj found the back of the net at 28:50, with another assist from De Santiago, giving the home team a 2-0 advantage at halftime.
The second half saw a determined Texas Wesleyan side making a comeback effort, as Pablo Bances scored at 52:35 to narrow the deficit. However, Oklahoma Panhandle State extended their lead with Frank Mutandi's goal at 55:29, which included a penalty kick.
Texas Wesleyan responded with Mathis Guffroy scoring at 77:45, assisted by Levin Brunner, but the comeback fell short as the clock ticked down.
Pablo Bances of Texas Wesleyan received a yellow card at 55:29, and Zane Doehring and Paolo Rocha of Oklahoma Panhandle State received yellow cards at 69:17 and 75:59, respectively.
