WBB: Rams Win Thriller in OT

Shreveport, LA – Texas Wesleyan University defeated LSU- Shreveport 79-72 in overtime to collect first win on the season.

Regulations minutes wasn't enough to start the 2023-2024 season off for the Texas Wesleyan as they competed in a thrilling overtime contest against LSU-Shreveport. After a back-and-forth game, the Rams proved to be too much for the Pilots as they would go on to win.
 
The Pilots would score the first few points of the contest and would hold a 13-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Texas Wesleyan would score 25 points while holding the Pilots to just 17. At halftime, the Rams held a 36-30 lead, outshooting the Pilots with a 9-14 field goal performance to the Pilots' 4-10.
 
Texas Wesleyan would have the slight 54-46 lead over the Pilots heading into the fourth quarter. The Rams would continue to extend their lead, but their opponents kept withing striking distance and would continue to rack up points. As the end of regulation came to a close, the two teams were knotted up at 67-67.
 
The Pilots would score the first points of overtime at the free throw line to take the lead early. Taryn Wills would score in the paint and added a pair free throw to extend the Rams lead. Savanna Smith would also make good on a pair of free throws to bring the lead to 75-71. Despite the hard-fought effort by the Pilots, the Rams of Texas Wesleyan squeeze out the win in overtime and would close out the game 79-72.
 
The Rams were 24-55 from the field and shot 83% at the free throw line.
Taryn Wills was a key player for the Rams, leading the team with 16 points and five rebounds. Savanna Smith added 12 points in the Ram' Victory .
 
Rikeyah Gant would be a spark of the bench with nine points and eight rebounds. She would also grab five steals for Texas Wesleyan.
 
The Rams will be back in action Saturday November 4th as they take on the Paul Quinn College at 1:30 p.m.
