PLAINVIEW, TX - The Texas Wesleyan took a tough loss against Wayland Baptist University inside of the Hutcherson Center Friday night. The Rams fell to the pioneers in four highly competitive sets.

The match was close throughout as the Pioneers took the first set 26-24 after trailing early in the set. After the Rams went on a 10-2 run, Wayland would score seven of the next eight points to cut the lead to 11-9. Texas Wesleyan would have a 24-21 lead, but the Pioneers would score the next five points to take the set.
The second set saw the Pioneers jump out to a pair of eight leads before the Rams would go on an 11-2 run to take a 23-22 advantage late in the set. Texas Wesleyan then scored three of the final five points to win the set 26-24. The Rams would hit .195 in the set with 14 kills off six errors with 41 total attempts.
Much like the previous sets, the third set the two teams battled until the very end. The Rams would have the advantage again at 24-22, and once again the Pioneers would go on a run to close out the set 26-24.
Texas Wesleyan struggled in the fourth set while Wayland continued to play well. The Pioneers pulled away from the Rams going on a 9-1 run to take a 17-9 advantage and cruised to a 25-16 win as they closed out the match.
Makenna Gannt led the Rams with 14 kills and added 16 assists for a double-double performance.
Carly Unruh finished with 11 kills and four blocks.
Ruby O'Brien dished out 29 assist and finished with 10 digs, while
Andrea Malek led all players with 34 digs in the loss.
The Rams finish the regular season on today at 1 p.m. with a match against Oklahoma Panhandle State University. Today's match will help determine seeding for the SAC post-season tournament that will begin with first-round action on Tuesday evening. The conference office will announce the tournament pairings on Saturday evening once all the conference games have been completed.
