On Thursday, the Texas Wesleyan Lady Rams (22-3, 17-2 SAC) took on the Central Cristian College Tigers (0-23, 0-19), beating them in a blowout, 100 to 45.
The Lady Rams put together a great team effort having four girls score in double digits. Senior
Kertisa Amos led the way with 20 points and seven rebounds, and she shot 8 for 12 from the field.
Zarria Carter scored 14 points, with eight rebounds and three steals. After falling early to injury in the last game against CCCK.
Zionna Barbee scored 11 points, shooting 3 for 5 from the free-throw line;
Taryn Wills was right behind her with 10 points scored.
From the tip, the Lady Rams were in control of the game. After starting the game on a 25-7 run, the Rams never looked back. In the first half, they shot 24-52 (46.2%) from the field and 11-17 (64.7%) from the free throw line. With TXWES able to build a 39-point lead going into half time, 63-24. The Lady Rams didn't take their foot off the pedal in the second half, continuing to pile on the points and outscoring CCCK in the third and fourth quarters.
The Lady Rams split the load between the bench and the starters, scoring 50 points evenly between the two. At the same time, it caused the Tigers to commit 24 turnovers during the game while keeping TXWES down to eight turnovers.
The Lady Rams were dominant on the glass, pulling in 57 rebounds as a team compared to the Tigers, who had 20. Thirty of the Lady Rams' rebounds came from the offensive end, causing many second-chance points for the Lady Rams.
The victory for the Lady Rams was their most significant point gap win, beating the previous best this season by one point; the Lady Rams produced the last time they met on January 5.
"The team played hard last night, and it was good to see us get back into a good rhythm, Assistant Coach Kevin Jackson said. "This time of year, it's so important to be in rhythm and on the same page."
The Lady Rams will play their next game at home in the Sid Richardson Center on February 11, 2023, at 2 pm against Langston University.
