For the first time since the 1989-90 season, The Texas Wesleyan Women's Basketball Team has been crowned as the Sooner Athletic Conference Champions!
The Lady Rams closed out the 2022-23 season in dominating fashion. Their win against Oklahoma Panhandle State on Saturday claims them their first conference championship since 1990. The SAC championship concludes a historical season that Ram Nation will remember for years.
Led by a high-powered offense, they dominated their opponents in every game, and this game was no different story. From the opening tip-off, it was clear that this team was not to be trifled. In a stunning display of skill
Kertisa Amos,
Taryn Wills,
Makayla Coy, and
Savanna Smith paved the way offensively for the Lady Ram's victory, each scoring over double digits.
Junior Wills led her team with an impressive 19 points. She was hot from the beginning, ending the first half with 13 points.
Senior Amos also put up an impressive 15 of her own. Her aggressive play style in the paint significantly contributed to the team's dominating performance, as she racked up ten rebounds.
Coy also got off to a hot start, racking up 7 points in the first quarter to support the Lady Rams 30-14 lead. Her pesky defense was a problem for the opposing offense, as her two key steals kept the Aggies on their toes.
Na'Teiona Cole also contributed to the 12 total steals the rams accumulated, with three of her own.
The lady basketball team's impressive 40.3% field goal percentage played a significant role in their claim to the conference championship. The team's ability to shoot 29.4% from behind the arc also contributed to their success. The team's 40 points off the bench also played a crucial role in their championship win.
As the game wore on, the team's lead only grew. The opposing team couldn't keep up with the Lady Rams offensive output, and their defense couldn't slow down the team's scoring. By the end of the game, the team had won in dominating fashion, with a final score of 97-57.
