After Texas Wesleyan took two losses to The Master's University on Friday, the Rams looked to return to the winning side of things against Baker University. In a Sunday doubleheader, The Rams split the series against the Wildcats at a game a piece, winning game one 6-4 but falling 6-2 in game two.
In game one, RHP
Morgan McCloud got the start. Coming into this game, McCloud has started the season well in his first three starts, compiling fifteen innings pitched, striking out ten, while not allowing a run this season. He would look to keep that going in game one as he put together 3.1 IP, only allowing one run on four hits, walking two and striking out two. He was pulled in the fourth inning as a precautionary measure due to minor cramping in his pitching hand. RHP
David Theriot would take over.
As for the offense, The Rams struck first in the second on a balk from the Wildcats. Two innings later, it was a brand new ballgame as the Wildcats tied it up via a balk from the Rams. In the fifth inning, the Wildcats broke the game open with a three-RBI double that made the game 4-1.
In the sixth inning, The Rams fought back as OF
Greyson Barrett delivered an RBI single to make it 4-2. The next batter, 1B Hayden Hutchens, delivered a game-tying two-RBI double to tie the game at 4-4. Later in the inning, with two outs, C
Carson Cheaney drills the first pitch he sees into the gap and gives the Rams the lead of 6-4 with a two-RBI double.
After
David Theriot worked 2.2 IP, they turned the ball over to RHP Jaxson Ingram, as he faced only three batters, striking out the last two and getting the save.
In game two, the Wildcats struck first, as they put together a five-run second inning, putting the Rams down 5-0 early. In the bottom half, DH
Logan Silvertooth drew a bases-loaded walk to drive in their first run and cut the deficit to 5-1.
After adding an insurance run in the third, Baker University held on to a 6-1 lead until the sixth inning. SS Chaeston Chon drove in a run on an RBI
single to make it a 6-2 ballgame, but that would be all they could put together, as they fell by that same score.
The Rams now sit at 9-5 on the season. Their next matchup will be a three-game series against Sterling College starting Friday at noon. These games will take place in Dallas at the Texas Rangers Youth Academy.
Be sure to tune in to episode three of Meet the Rams: Home Run Alley, as James Trietley and company will talk about the season so far, the upcoming series against Sterling College, and more.
