BB: Rams Take Two Games from Jarvis Christian

Deja vu from the opening weekend as the Rams win both games in their doubleheader against Jarvis Christian College. The Rams came into this game from a series sweep against Huston-Tillotson last weekend to open up the season.

Game one featured RHP Morgan McCloud toeing the rubber for the Rams. McCloud put together another solid start, as he worked through five scoreless frames while allowing two hits, three walks and striking out three.

On the offensive side, it was First Basemen Jose Sosa putting his team up 1-0 in the first inning with an RBI single. Then in the second, Catcher Rueben Bennevendo connected on a laser beam two-run home run to right field, putting the team up 3-0. The offense continued to pile it on in the third, as Outfielder Greyson Barrett delivered a 2-RBI double that broke the game open at 5-0.

In relief for the Rams, RHP Garrett Bodine came in to close the game out, striking out two and earning his first save of the season in the process, as the Rams went on to win this one 5-3.

In game two, the Rams turned the ball over to LHP Sutton Tidwell for his season's first outing. Tidwell dazzled in his three innings of work, giving up just one run while striking out five. RHPs Andrew Graham and Stephen Roberts worked in relief, holding the Bulldogs to just two runs.

The home runs sure were contagious for the Rams, as they had a 2-1 lead going into the second inning when Second Basemen TJ Tomlinson powered a 2-run home run to right and put his team up 4-1. Then, in the fourth inning, Carson Cheaney drove an opposite-field 2-run home run of his own over the right field fence, as they took a 6-1 lead at the time.

In the seventh inning, RHP Jesse Garcia took the ball for the second time this season, looking to close out the game. Garcia registered his first save and struck out the side in the process, helping the Rams get to victory, as they won 7-3.

The Rams are now 5-0 on the season and are looking for their second series sweep of the year. They go for six straight victories as they take on the Bulldogs in the series finale tomorrow at 1:00 pm.
