In a recent baseball game, the Texas Wesleyan Rams (19-7, 3-1 SAC) defeated the Southwestern Christian Eagles (18-7, 4-3 SAC) by a score of 16-6.
The game started quietly, with no runs scored by either team in the first inning. In the second inning, the Rams began to get things going when
Jonathan Pena hit a double to left-center, driving in
JD Padgett for the game's first run. T. Tomlinson then hit a single to right field, bringing in two more runs and giving the Rams a 3-0 lead.
The Eagles could not answer back in the next two innings while the Rams continued to add to their lead. In the fourth inning,
Manny Luna hit a double and drove in three more runs, extending the Rams' lead to 6-0. The Eagles finally got on the board in the fifth inning, thanks to an error by the Rams' second baseman that allowed Tyler Reeves to score.
The Eagles continued to fight back in the sixth and eighth innings, with Dario Paredes hitting a home run in the sixth inning and Jhores Gomez hitting a single that drove in two runs in the eighth inning. However, the Rams responded with their own offensive power in the seventh and eighth innings.
Brandon Rincones hit a triple, and
Jose Sosa hit a home run, bringing in a total of six runs in the seventh inning. In the eighth inning, Sosa hit another homerun, this time with the bases loaded, bringing in four more runs. Grayson Barrett then hit a two-run home run, bringing the Rams' total to 16 runs.
On the defensive side, the Rams had a strong showing. Pitcher
Eugene Gay was credited with the win after pitching five innings, giving up only one run and striking out five batters. The Rams' defense also had three errors, but it wasn't a significant factor in the game.
