Texas Wesleyan dominated Wayland Baptist in a road baseball game, played Saturday afternoon, winning 13-8.
Starting with the offense, Texas Wesleyan was firing on all cylinders throughout the game. In the second inning,
JD Padgett doubled down the right-field line, driving in
Jonathan Pena and putting Texas Wesleyan up 1-0. Later in the inning, Padgett advanced to third on a wild pitch, and J. Sosa scored, giving Texas Wesleyan a 2-0 lead. Hayden Hutchens singled to right field, driving in Padgett, making it 3-0 in favor of Texas Wesleyan.
Texas Wesleyan continued their hot start in the third inning, as J. Pena hit a two-run homer to right-center, bringing the score to 5-0. In the fourth inning, Texas Wesleyan scored four more runs, including a two-run homer by Kevin Santiago and an RBI single by
Jose Sosa. Texas Wesleyan's offense continued to produce runs, and by the end of the game, they had tallied an impressive 19 hits.
Texas Wesleyan's pitching was less dominant than their offense. However, they were able to limit the damage and keep Wayland Baptist at bay. Texas Wesleyan's defense allowed eight runs on 14 hits, but they also managed to strike out nine batters.
Overall, Texas Wesleyan's offense was the standout aspect of the game. They produced runs throughout the game, giving their pitching staff a comfortable lead to work with. Although their defense was less sharp than their offense, they did enough to secure the victory. With a record of 32-12 and 15-6 in the SAC, Texas Wesleyan has been one of the top teams in their conference this season.Â
If they continue to produce offensively and improve their defensive play, they will be a tough team to beat come playoff time.
