WBB: Rams Fall Short at Home 61-57

FORT WORTH, TX – The Texas Wesleyan women's basketball team overcame an 18-point deficit and cut it down to just four points but fell short in a tight battle against SAGU 57-61 Saturday afternoon.

Texas Wesleyan would fall behind quick as SAGU would knock down six three-point shots in the first quarter to take an early 19-6 lead. The Rams would continue to battle against the Lions, slowly cutting into the deficit, but never being able to fully take the lead.

Down 34-27, Taryn Wills would finish a tough shot at the basket and head to the free throw line to complete the three-point play to bring The Rams within four. SAGU would continue to dominate from the three-point line and would quickly drill a shot from beyond to extend the lead back to seven.

Though the Rams would out score the Lions 23-9 in the final quarter of action, they were unable to take down their opponents in the final minutes of the contest losing 61-57.

Taryn Wills finished with 19 points and nine rebounds while Mary Nyakundi add 14 points of her own. As a team the Rams shot 22-67 from the field and would go 4-11 from the free throw line.

The Rams remain at home for a match against the University of Science and Arts Monday night at 6 P.M. inside the Sid Richardson Center.
