CROWLEY, TX - Texas Wesleyan University (6-0, 4-0 SAC) achieved a historic 76-19 victory over Nelson University (2-4, 1-3 SAC), recording the third-highest point total in school history.
The Rams have scored the top three single-game point totals in program history within their last four games.
Ernest Ceasar led the offense, tying the school record for the most rushing touchdowns in a single game with six, matching Clint Epperson's record from 2021 against Louisiana College.
The Lions scoring opened the game with a 34-yard touchdown run by Tamodrick Davis, followed by another touchdown after capitalizing on a Rams fumble, taking an early 13-0 lead.
However, TXWES quickly responded. Ernest Ceasar's 8-yard touchdown narrowed the gap to 13-6, and Javari Sanders intercepted a pass for a 25-yard return, tying the game at 13-13.
The Rams maintained their momentum, with Ceasar scoring again on a short run to take the lead, followed by a 1-yard rushing touchdown from quarterback Carson Rodgers, putting the Rams ahead 27-13 by the end of the first quarter.
The Rams dominated the second quarter, beginning with Ceasar's 16-yard touchdown run. Nelson's offense struggled, failing to make significant progress and punting after losing yardage.
Texas Wesleyan capitalized, as Rodgers connected with AJ Bobb on a 37-yard touchdown pass, pushing the lead to 41-13. Ceasar added two more rushing touchdowns before halftime, extending the score to a commanding 55-13 lead.
In the third quarter, Nelson scored on a 6-yard run by Marvin Sanders, but Texas Wesleyan's defense remained strong, limiting further opportunities.
Despite a brief offensive setback with a Rodgers interception, the Rams rebounded with Ceasar's sixth touchdown, extending their lead to 62-19. Zykeelan Hadnot added another score, ending the quarter with a 69-19 advantage.
The Rams continued their dominance in the fourth quarter, as the defense, led by Wyatt Vinzant and Neville Mbah, recorded back-to-back sacks. Although Nelson completed a 25-yard pass, Billy Sanford's interception ended their drive.
Texas Wesleyan's offense initially stalled with a fumble recovery by Nelson, but the Rams regained possession after another interception by Jaiden Jones. Texas Wesleyan concluded the scoring with a 36-yard touchdown pass from Tye Renfro to Jaysen Price, securing the final score of 76-19.
The Rams will next play on the road against Wayland Baptist on Saturday before returning home on November 2 against Texas College for Homecoming 2024.
