FB: Rams Record Second Come From Behind Victory to Remain Undefeated

 

PLAINVIEW, TX - No. 11 Texas Wesleyan University (7-0, 6-0 SAC) extended its perfect season with a 66-35 win over Wayland Baptist University (3-4, 3-3 SAC) on Saturday.

The Pioneers took an early lead in the first quarter with an 85-yard touchdown from quarterback Davian Guajardo to Brenden Strickland. The Rams struggled to find their rhythm early on, trailing 7-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Wayland stretched the lead to 14-0 in the second quarter with a 27-yard touchdown pass to Jaylen Reed. TXWES responded with a 28-yard touchdown pass from Carson Rodgers to Michael Banks, narrowing the score to 14-7.

WBU surged ahead again with a 47-yard run from Damon Ford, but Texas Wesleyan finished the half strong, as Rodgers connected with AJ Bobb for a 40-yard score, cutting Wayland's lead to 21-17.

The Rams exploded in the third quarter. Zykeelan Hadnot opened with a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, giving the Rams their first lead at 24-21. Rodgers followed with two touchdown passes to Ernest Ceasar, helping the Rams pull ahead 38-21. Wayland Baptist added a touchdown, but Texas Wesleyan responded with back-to-back scoring plays, ending the third quarter 52-28.

Wayland Baptist added another touchdown in the third quarter to close the gap to 52-35. But Texas Wesleyan quickly countered, with Rodgers finding Banks for a 46-yard score. Ceasar capped off the game with a 50-yard touchdown run, sealing Texas Wesleyan's 66-35 win.

Rodgers threw for 429 yards and five touchdowns, with Banks recording 196 receiving yards and two scores. Ceasar contributed with 67 rushing yards, including two touchdowns on the ground and one receiving. Guajardo led Wayland Baptist with 347 passing yards and four touchdowns.

Texas Wesleyan will look to continue its winning streak on Saturday, hosting Texas College for Homecoming at Crowley Multi-Purpose Stadium, with kickoff set for 2 p.m
