FORT WORTH, TX - Texas Wesleyan University (9-6-2, 3-3-2 SAC) overcame an early two-goal deficit to defeat Oklahoma Panhandle State (2-20-2, 0-7-1 SAC) 4-2 on Tuesday at Martin Field.
Despite Oklahoma Panhandle's strong start, with Ayoup Bader scoring twice within the first 20 minutes, Texas Wesleyan responded quickly and dominated the rest of the match.
Bader's first goal came at the 17:35 mark, assisted by David Rubio, followed by an unassisted strike two minutes later. However, the Rams' Mathis Guffroy took control of the game, scoring twice before halftime.
Guffroy's first goal, assisted by his brother Louis, came in the 34th minute, and his second, assisted by Matteo Todorovic, tied the match at 2-2 just before the break.
In the second half, Texas Wesleyan continued to press. Daniel Jimenez found the net at the 51:46 mark, assisted by Guffroy, to give the Rams a 3-2 lead.
Matteo Todorovic sealed the victory with a goal in the 83rd minute, with Guffroy and Fabricio Martinez assisting.
The Rams outshot Oklahoma Panhandle 18-8 and earned ten corner kicks to Panhandle's three. Â
The Rams will next play on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Plainview, Texas facing off against conference foe Wayland Baptist University.
