FORT WORTH, TX - Texas Wesleyan University (18-8, 14-4 SAC) volleyball team faced a conference opponent Nelson University (23-4, 18-0 SAC), falling 3-1 in a tightly contested match on Tuesday in Fort Worth, Texas.
Despite strong showings in several areas, Texas Wesleyan ultimately came up short, 21-25, 25-14, 25-27, and 19-25.
The Rams displayed resilience, especially in the second set, where they showcased their offensive potential, hitting .278 compared to Nelson's .030 and securing a decisive 25-14 win. Texas Wesleyan led the match in total kills (53) and blocks (12), with Makenna Gantt notching a game-high 15 kills, followed by Grace Pavelka's 11.
Pavelka also anchored the defense with five blocks, while America Galvan led the digs count with 16.
Nelson's balanced attack, highlighted by Bailee Alexander's ten kills and Lilly Hanna's eight blocks, proved challenging, especially in the fourth set Nelson surged with a .333 hitting percentage to secure the match.
Ruby O'Brien recorded 21 assists for Texas Wesleyan, while Ruby Rumohr contributed 17, supporting the Rams' competitive edge through the first three sets.
The Rams will next compete on Friday at 7 p.m. against Central Christian College of Kansas in the Sid Richardson Center.
