FORT WORTH, TX - Texas Wesleyan University (13-5, 9-1) secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Southwestern Christian University (3-13, 1-10), with set scores of 25-17, 25-12, and 25-8.
In the first set, both teams were competitive, with SCU showing resilience. However, TXWES pulled away to win 25-17. Shelly Martin led TXWES and delivered pivotal kills throughout the set. Alondra Esparza and Kloe Booker-Searcy of SCU made notable contributions. Still, several attack errors and the defensive presence of the Rams Sydney Alexander and Hanna Rubis helped the home team secure the opening set.
The second set saw the Rams jump to an early lead, thanks to precise serving from Ruby O'Brien with two service aces. SCU briefly leveled the score at 6-6 with a string of aces from Faith DeSouza, but TXWES quickly regained control with powerful kills from Hanna Rubis and Makenna Gantt. The Rams pulled away to take the set 25-12. Southwestern Christian continued to struggle with attack errors, allowing Texas Wesleyan to gain a comfortable lead heading into the final set.
The third set was even more dominant for the Rams. Strong serving by Ruby Rumohr and Sydney Alexander, combined with offensive contributions from Rubis and Gantt, helped the Rams take control. However, the Eagles' attack was stopped after a series of errors in the third set. Texas Wesleyan closed out the set 25-8, securing a decisive 3-0 sweep.
Texas Wesleyan finished the match with a .438 hitting percentage, led by Rubis with 11 kills and Rumohr with five aces. Southwestern Christian struggled offensively, hitting just .043 overall.
The Rams will next play on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Sid Richard Center against the Oklahoma City University Stars.
