CROWLEY, TX - Texas Wesleyan University (5-0, 3-0 SAC)secured a resounding 77-0 victory over Arkansas Baptist College (0-4, 0-3 SAC), marking the second-largest point total in school history, behind only their record-setting 80-point performance against North American University.
The Rams dominated from the outset, jumping to a commanding 21-0 lead in the first quarter. After a 47-yard kickoff by Diego Chavarria, Arkansas Baptist's first drive stalled. Texas Wesleyan quickly capitalized when Carson Rodgers connected with Michael Banks for a 47-yard touchdown pass. On Arkansas Baptist's next possession, Javari Sanders intercepted the ball, setting up a 30-yard touchdown pass from Rodgers to AJ Bobb. Following another turnover by Arkansas Baptist, Ernest Ceasar rushed for a 5-yard touchdown, capping a solid first quarter for the Rams.
In the second quarter, after a short punt from Arkansas Baptist's 35-yard line set up a quick two-play, 49-yard drive, which resulted in a touchdown pass from Rodgers to Ceasar. Arkansas Baptist showed signs of life with a 52-yard drive, but another interception by Sanders halted their progress. Texas Wesleyan continued to pile on points, with Ceasar adding two more rushing touchdowns before halftime. The Rams entered the locker room with a dominant 49-0 lead, highlighting their offensive firepower and defensive prowess.
The third quarter saw Arkansas Baptist attempt to recover, but Texas Wesleyan's defense remained resolute. After a solid kick return by Jaysen Price, the Rams advanced quickly, but a fumble by Ceasar allowed Arkansas Baptist to regain possession. However, the Rams' defense continued to stifle any momentum from Arkansas Baptist, setting the stage for a competitive but one-sided third quarter.
In the final quarter, Texas Wesleyan extended their lead to 77-0, including a 37-yard touchdown by Nick David-West. Despite Arkansas Baptist's efforts, Texas Wesleyan's defense held firm, securing a dominant victory and reinforcing itself as an offensive powerhouse in the NAIA.
The latest win reinforces the Rams'Â status as the highest-scoring team in the NAIA, averaging an impressive 55 points per game.
The Rams return to play in the Highway 287 Rivalry against Nelson University on October 19 at Crowly Multi-Purpose Stadium at 4 p.m.
