FB: Rams Clinch Spot in Playoff with Victory

Ceasar sets new NAIA record for rushing touchdowns in a season with 33 and counting.

CROWLEY, TX - No. 9 Texas Wesleyan (9-0, 7-0 SAC) opened the game strong, starting with a return by Mark Benjamin to the 33-yard line. The drive stalled, leading to a punt. Langston's first possession ended quickly with three consecutive incomplete passes.

Texas Wesleyan capitalized on the ensuing punt, moving the ball with key completions from Cole Francis to AJ Bobb and TJ Curtis. The drive culminated in Ernest Ceasar's 11-yard touchdown run, giving the Rams a 7-0 lead. Halting the Lions' offense on fourth down, the Rams held their advantage.

In the second quarter, Texas Wesleyan extended their lead with a 12-play, 70-yard drive finished by Cole Francis' 1-yard touchdown run, making it 14-0. Langston's next possession ended quickly with a punt, and Texas Wesleyan answered with a 12-play, 90-yard drive, highlighted by Ceasar's 15-yard rush for a touchdown to lead 21-0. Langston responded with an 18-yard touchdown rush by Torrence Bardell, narrowing the gap to 21-7. Texas Wesleyan intercepted a pass on Langston's final possession of the half.

The third quarter saw Texas Wesleyan take control. A 4-play, 53-yard drive ended with Ceasar's 15-yard touchdown rush, pushing the lead to 28-7. Langston's offense struggled, with the Rams forcing a turnover on downs and an interception returned by Josh Morris. Ceasar capitalized with two more touchdowns: a 7-yard rush and a 22-yard touchdown on a 1-play drive, making it 42-7.

Texas Wesleyan added another touchdown in the fourth quarter, increasing their lead to 49-7. After Langston's fumble recovery and several turnovers, the Rams went on a 65-yard drive, capped by Ceasar's 20-yard touchdown run. The touchdown set a new single-season record for rushing touchdowns with 33. Beatin the previous record of 32 was held by Jo Jo Jones, Lambuth (Tenn.), 1994 and Roger Butler, Tabor (Kan.), 2005.

The Rams will travel to Louisiana Christian to close out the regular season on Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
