WBB: Rams Beat Trailblazers at Home

FORT WORTH, TX– Texas Wesleyan University claimed a commanding 80-55 victory over UNT Dallas in an intense matchup at the Sid Richardson Center.

The win improves the Rams' record to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while UNT Dallas falls to 1-4 and 0-3 in the SAC.

Texas Wesleyan wasted no time asserting itself in the first quarter, with De'Asia Johnson and Savanna Smith contributing key plays. Johnson's early free throws gave the Rams an advantage, while Smith's steal and fast-break layup energized the team. UNT Dallas, led by strong rebounding from Sophia Hurtado, managed to keep the score close with timely layups.

The Rams held a slim lead after the first 10 minutes, 26-14.

In the second quarter, UNT Dallas capitalized on second-chance opportunities and controlled the boards with offensive rebounds from Kameryn Phillips. Eryka Patton continued to impact the game by scoring inside.

Despite Texas Wesleyan's efforts on defense, including a block and key rebounds by Johnson, the Rams struggled to contain the UNT Dallas attack and trailed 35-33 at halftime.

However, Texas Wesleyan dominated the second half. The Rams' defense stiffened, and key shots by Savanna Smith and Tayran Wills helped extend the lead. Smith drained a critical three-pointer, and Wills added key layups as the Rams went on a 15-6 run in the third. Texas Wesleyan carried a double-digit lead into the final quarter.

In the fourth, the Rams' depth and defensive intensity were on full display. Iasia Goldman added a spark with mid-range shots, and Sophia Hurtado powered the offense with points in the paint.

The Rams also got solid bench contributions, including timely three-pointers from Shanti Hall. Texas Wesleyan's defense locked down, limiting UNT Dallas' chances and securing the 80-55 victory.

The Rams will next play on the road Saturday against the University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma at 2 p.m.
