FORT WORTH, TX - Texas Wesleyan (3-0) pulled off an impressive comeback to defeat the No. 5-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan (3-2), fueled by a dominant second-half performance.
The Rams went into halftime trailing 40-32, as OKWU's efficient shooting and rebounding initially gave them control. Jaden Lietzke and Derrick Talton Jr. led Oklahoma Wesleyan with 11 points each, with Lietzke shooting a flawless 5-for-5 and securing five rebounds.
Talton contributed defensively with a steal and shot 50% from the field.
In the first half, the Falcons shot 47.1% overall and 33.3% from beyond the arc, while the Rams managed 42.9% and hit 36.4% of their three-point attempts.
Richard Amaefule paced TXWES with 11 points and six rebounds, while Trey Sinegal and Vegas Evans chipped in five points, keeping the Rams close despite an 18-15 rebounding disadvantage.
The second half saw TXWES turn the game around with a stellar 55.6% shooting performance and 50% from three-point range. Amaefule continued his strong play, adding 11 points and anchoring the defense with three blocks. Â
Sinegal matched Amaefule's scoring with 11 points, including a timely three-pointer that shifted momentum. Vegas Evans added eight points, hitting two key three-pointers, and Kristopher O'Neal II went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma Wesleyan's offense faltered in the second half, shooting only 28.6% and committing 12 turnovers, which Texas Wesleyan capitalized on to seal their comeback.
The Rams will next play at 4 p.m. Saturday on the road against Texas A&M University at Texarkana.
