MBB: Rams Fall Short to Pioneers at Home

FORT WORTH, TX - In a thrilling matchup, the Texas Wesleyan Rams fell just short against Wayland Baptist, losing 67-64 at the Sid Richardson Center.

The tightly contested game saw multiple lead changes and standout performances on both sides.

The Rams were led by Vegas Evans, who scored 18 points and hit two three-pointers. Trey Sinegal added 16 points, including several key shots that kept the game within reach. Montez Young Jr. delivered a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Richard Amaefule contributed 11 points and displayed strong interior play.

Wayland Baptist was anchored by Quenton Coleman, who tallied a game-high 22 points, going a near-perfect 12-of-13 from the free-throw line. James Lee provided a crucial spark off the bench, scoring 14 points, while Adeola Seun added six points and five rebounds in a gritty effort.

Texas Wesleyan shot 41.7% from the field, including 31.3% from beyond the arc, while Wayland Baptist converted 50% of their field-goal attempts and an impressive 77.3% from the free-throw line. Despite the Rams' strong rebounding effort, which resulted in 17 second-chance points, turnovers and missed opportunities in the final minutes proved costly.

The Rams had a chance to take the lead late in the game, but Wayland Baptist held firm, with Coleman and Seun hitting clutch free throws to secure the win. A defensive rebound by Young Jr. at the buzzer marked the end of an intense contest.

Texas Wesleyan drops to 7-3 overall and 3-3 in SAC play, while Wayland Baptist improves to 6-5 overall and 6-1 in the conference. The Rams will look to bounce back in their next game as they continue their season.

The Rams will play in the Sid Richardson Center on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Oklahoma Panhandle State University.
