AUSTIN, TX - On Tuesday, the Texas Wesleyan Rams played the Huston-Tillotson Rams in Austin, TX, where Tillotson secured a walk-off win in the first game, 12-11.
Texas Wesleyan started strong, accumulating a 6-1 lead by the fourth inning. Rody Garcia led the Rams with a double and a home run, contributing five RBIs.
However, the game took a dramatic turn in the bottom of the fourth inning when Huston-Tillotson rallied with a six-run surge, leveling the score at 7-7.
The offensive firepower continued for both teams, with home runs from Garcia, Angel Polanco and Aiden Kenney for Texas Wesleyan, and Noah Alvarez for Huston-Tillotson.
The final inning proved decisive, as Huston-Tillotson secured the win with a walk-off single, finishing the game 12-11.
Rowen Guerra of Huston-Tillotson was credited with the win, while Alfredo Martinez took the loss for Texas Wesleyan. The loss moves TXWES's record to 8-6, while Tillotson improves their record to 6-3.
In game two between the Texas Wesleyan Rams and the Huston-Tillotson Rams, Texas Wesleyan emerged triumphant with a 9-7 victory.
The game saw Texas Wesleyan taking an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning and maintaining their advantage through the third inning.
However, Huston-Tillotson mounted a comeback in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs to tie the game. The fourth inning proved pivotal, with both teams exchanging blows, resulting in a 7-7 tie.
The turning point came in the top of the seventh inning when Texas Wesleyan's Jake Spencer delivered a clutch sacrifice fly, bringing in the go-ahead run.
Rody Garcia's game two performance, including a triple and two RBIs. Pitcher Garrett Bodine, who entered the game in the fourth inning, pitched 3.1 innings with nine strikeouts and earned the win.
The win improved TXWES's record to 9-6, while Tillotson's overall record fell to 6-4.
The Rams will next play on the road against the University of Houston at Victoria on Monday, with the first pitch at Rice University Reckling Park at 1 PM.
