WBB: Women’s Basketball Celebrates Senior Day With 82-40 Win Over Central Christian

FORT WORTH, TX - In a game that honored three seniors prior to the contest, Texas Wesleyan would put on a dominating performance against Central Christian inside the Sid Richardson center on Saturday afternoon.

The Rams would take control of the game early in the first quarter as they would go on a swift 10-0 and finish the first quarter 20-2. Texas Wesleyan would only allow their opponents two points and would hold them to a staggering 6.7% from the field.   The Tigers would be in an uphill battle for the rest of the match as Texas Wesleyan continued their offensive assault. Heading into halftime Central Christian would be trailing 15-41. The Rams would continue to assert the dominance in the remaining two quarters and held an impressive lead up until the final buzzer.

Texas Wesleyan would go on to close out the regular season with a 82-40 victory behind shooting 46.9% (30-64) from the field , nine made shots from beyond the arc, and going 13-18 from the free throw line.

Kamryn Gibson would post a season high 23 points in the win while seniors Mary Nyakundi and Savanna Smith each finish in the double digits with 16 and 12 points respectively. Senior Taryn Wills would also add seven points of her own. Sophia Hurtdao would also contribute 13 points and 8 rebounds in the victory.

The Rams enter the tournament as the No. 8 seed and will take on the No.1 seeded Golden Eagles on Thursday with the tip-off set for 6 p.m. in Siloam Springs, Ark. Texas Wesleyan enters the postseason with an overall record of 13-15 and a conference mark of 9-13.
