STERLINGTON, LA – On Thursday, Texas Wesleyan (4-3) and Missouri Baptist (5-1), played in a game that extended into the 11th inning before Missouri Baptist secured a 2-1 victory.
The scoring began early in the 1st inning when Texas Wesleyan's
TJ Tomlinson walked and later scored on a passed ball, giving them a 1-0 lead. However, Missouri Baptist responded immediately in the bottom of the 1st with Blane Besse's home run, tying the game at 1-1.
From there, the game turned into a pitching duel, with both teams unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities. The score remained deadlocked until the 11th inning when DJ Schmidt of Missouri Baptist reached first on an error by 2nd base, allowing Cameron Roll to score the winning run, securing a 2-1 victory for Missouri Baptist.
Pitching played a crucial role in the game, with notable performances from Blayne Yarger (Missouri Baptist) earning the win and
David Theriot (Texas Wesleyan) taking the loss.
The Rams were able to set a school record with 21 combined strikeouts in the extra innings game. The previous record of 19 strikeouts was set twice, first on May 15, 1972 against Bishop and once again against Central Christian on March 2, 2019.
The Rams will play two games today in the Cajun Collision, with the team slated to first play against Loyola University at 3:30 p.m., and again at 6:30 p.m. against the University of Mobile.
