MBB: Texas Wesleyan University Names Brian Wanamaker as New Head Coach of Men's Basketball

FORT WORTH, TX– Texas Wesleyan University is excited to announce Brian Wanamaker as the new head coach of the Rams men's basketball team.

Wanamaker, a former All-American at Texas Wesleyan, steps into the role as the 17th head coach in the program's illustrious 85-year history.

Last season was Wanamaker's fifth season as an assistant coach for the Rams, working under then-head coach Brennen Shingleton. His tenure as an assistant has been marked by notable achievements, including guiding the team to back-to-back NAIA Tournament qualifications. Wanamaker's coaching skills have contributed to the success of five tournament appearances in the last seven seasons.

Wanamaker's journey with TXWES began during his junior and senior seasons as a player, where he twice earned All-Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) honors and led the team to consecutive NAIA National Tournament appearances.

In the 2010-11 season, he was named RRAC Player of the Year and became the third Ram to earn 1st-team NAIA All-American honors. During that standout season, he averaged 19.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and five assists per game.
Wanamaker scored 1,046 points in just two seasons, making him the 17th member of Texas Wesleyan's prestigious 1,000 Point Club.

After graduating, Wanamaker was drafted into the NBA D-League, where he embarked on an extensive professional playing career spanning six seasons across various European leagues. His on-court success and leadership qualities were evident throughout his professional career, making his transition to coaching a natural progression.

Wanamaker returned to Texas Wesleyan in the 2019-20 season, bringing his wealth of experience and passion for the game to his alma mater. His contributions as an assistant coach have been instrumental in the Rams' recent successes, and his appointment as head coach is a testament to his commitment and vision for the program.

"I am deeply honored and excited to take on the head coach role at Texas Wesleyan," said Wanamaker. "The university and basketball program have played a significant role in my life. I am committed to building on our tradition of excellence and leading the Rams to even greater heights."
