ALEXANDRIA, LA - In the season opener for Texas Wesleyan University (TXWES), the Rams fell to LSU Alexandria (LSU-A) 4-2 on Saturday at Generals Soc Field in Alexandria, Louisiana.
The game started with a quick advantage for LSU-A, as Sofia Jimeno Nogue scored a penalty kick just 2 minutes and 29 seconds into the match. Ksenija Pavlovic extended the lead with a goal in the 6th minute, assisted by Micaela Nunes.
Despite a few attempts from TXWES, including shots from Mikayla Trevino and Alexa Bezpalko, the Rams struggled to find the back of the net in the first half.
The second half saw a more competitive performance from Texas Wesleyan. Alexa Bezpalko scored a penalty kick in the 54th minute to narrow the gap to 2-1.
However, LSU Alexandria responded with two more goals: Jimeno Nogue's second penalty kick in the 68th minute and Pavlovic's second goal of the match in the 71st minute, assisted by Alexia Bermejo Jo.
Kayannah Moore added a second goal for TXWES in the 75th minute, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit. Despite several late-game efforts, including multiple corner kicks and shots from Maribel Vargas and Kristine Garcia, the Rams could not close the gap.
Regarding team statistics, TXWES had nine shots, with four on goal, while LSU-A registered 14 shots, with five on target. TXWES also earned seven corner kicks compared to LSU-A's 1. Defensively, Maggie Campbell recorded one save, while Victoria Weber of LSU-A made two saves.
The Rams will next play at home against Jarvis Christian on Thursday at Martin Field, with the match scheduled to start at 5 PM.
