VB: Rams split Saturday’s matches

NEW ORLEANS, LA - The Texas Wesleyan volleyball team finished day two of the Wolf Pack Welcome on Saturday, splitting a pair of matches against #15 Montana Western and Loyola University.
 
Texas Wesleyan vs. #15 Montana Western
25-18, 24-26, 21-25, 25-16, 19-17
 
Montana Western got out to an early lead in the first set following a 9-2 scoring run early in the set. With Bulldogs up 24-13, Texas Wesleyan provided a glimpse of fight in match after they battled for five straight set points before falling 25-18.

Set two would see Montana Western jump  to an 11-7 lead. The Rams would continue to battle and knotted the game back up at 15 before taking  a 17-16 lead. The Rams came up big at the end of the set with a 7-1 to win 26-24.

The third set proved to be a back-and-forth affair early on. With the game ties at 18 a piece it would be the Rams that continued on to take the third 25-21 after the Montana Western struggled on the offensive end with  just nine total kills in the set.

Facing an upset, the Bulldogs came out on firing on all cylinders to force a fifth set. Texas Wesleyan would do their best to get back in the set, but Montana Western would go on to win 25-16.

The fifth frame proved to be a competitive match, with neither team taking more than a two-point lead throughout the entire set. Needing extra points to finish the match out, Texas Wesleyan would go the distance with the Bulldogs to capture their first win. The Rams fought valiantly, but ultimately fell to Montana Western 19-17.
 
NOTES
  • Sydney Alexander led the Rams with a career high 15 Kills and three blocks.
  • Makenna Gantt finished the match with her first career triple- double with 13 kills, 23 assists, and 15 digs
  • Emily Lewis had a career high 21 digs to lead the Rams.
  • Texas Wesleyan finished hitting a .098 on the match behind 205 attempts with 61 kills and 41 errors.

After a thrilling five set loss, the Rams bounced back to. Get the sweep over tournament host Loyola to close out the day.
 
 Texas Wesleyan would battle in the first before taking care of business with two convincing wins in the final two sets. With this win the Rams captured their first match win of the 2024 season
