FORT WORT, TX- After going 1-1 yesterday with a 3-0 loss to the College of Idaho and a 3-1 over. The Rams were swept by the College of Idaho and pulled out two victories over #21 Montana Tech and the Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles to close out the weekend.
Match 1: Texas Wesleyan vs. Montana Tech
25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 25-17
The first set was a back-and-forth battle that had no long scoring runs with the longest being a three-point start by Texas Wesleyan. Midway through the set the Rams would call a crucial timeout after finding themselves trailing 19-16. Coming out of the break The Rams would go on a four-point run to take a one-point lead over the Oreddigers. Montana Tech would try to use a time out to slow the Ram's momentum, but freshman
Migdaly Bernal would come up big with back-to-back service aces to extend the lead to 22-19. Texas Wesleyan would go on to close out the set 25-22.
Much like the first, the second went the way of Texas Wesleyan as the team came up big in key moment to take another close set over Montana Tech 25-23.While the Orediggers battled back and took the third set to win 25-20, Texas Wesleyan came out swinging the fourth set fast to take an early 8-2 lead. Montana Tech would pull within five, but never closed the gap, as the Rams would take the match, with a 25-17 win in set four.
Key highlights from the match included:
- The Rams had a solid showing at the service and finished the match with 11 service aces. Freshman Migdaly Bernal would lead the way with five.
- Makenna Gantt continued to to have a successful weekend as she finished with 13 kills and 22 assists.
- Ruby O'Brien threw out 28 assists and Makenna Dillow finished with 13 digs in the victory.
Match 1: Texas Wesleyan vs. Texas A&M Texarkana
31-33, 25-15, 25-16, 25-22
The second match of the day would see the Rams go the extra mile again as they team would endure another hard-fought battle that saw them reach 31 points. Though the Rams dropped the first set, they would complete the reverse sweep over Texas A&M-Texarkana to finish out the weekend with a 3-1 record.
Key highlights from the match included:
- More tough serving from the Rams helped secure the victory as the team finished with 8 service aces.
- Makenna Gantt finished her weekend with another stellar performance, finishing with a season high 19 kills and 2 assists.
- Ruby O'Brien was able to run a well-rounded office and added 30 assists to wrap up her weekend.
- Emily Lewis and Makenna Dillow each finished with 13 digs.
The Rams will kick off Sooner Athletic Conference play on Friday, September 6, against the University of Science and Arts (USAO) Drovers. The match will take place in Chickasha, Oklahoma, with a 6:00 PM start time.
