STAFFORD, TX - Texas Wesleyan University secured a 4-2 victory over North American University in a thrilling matchup on Friday. The win improved Texas Wesleyan's record to 4-3-0 for the season, while North American fell to 2-4-0.
The Rams started strong with Luis Gallegos opening the scoring at the 12:15 mark, netting his fourth goal of the season. Just a few minutes later, Louis Guffroy extended Texas Wesleyan's lead to 2-0 with a goal assisted by Gallegos. However, North American struck back before halftime when Wilman Landaverde found the back of the net, assisted by Pedro Ortega, cutting the deficit to 2-1 at the 39:46 mark.
In the second half, Texas Wesleyan regained momentum with Mathis Guffroy converting a penalty kick at 49:41 to push the lead to 3-1. North American responded quickly with a goal by Eric Landaverde at 52:09, tightening the score to 3-2.
Despite playing a man down after a red card issued to Matteo Todorovic in the 57th minute, Texas Wesleyan remained composed. Francisco Navarrete sealed the win with his first goal of the season at the 79:54 mark, assisted by Mathis Guffroy and Kazato Saito, bringing the final score to 4-2.
North American had more shots, outshooting Texas Wesleyan 21-18, but the Rams' goalkeeper Alex Tonietto made eight crucial saves to preserve the win. The match was physical, but Texas Wesleyan's early offensive strikes and defensive resilience ensured the victory.
The Rams will next play on Monday at 6:30 p.m. against Texas College at Martin Field.
