SILOAM SPRINGS, AK - In a hard-fought match, Texas Wesleyan University fell to No. 19 John Brown University, 1-0, on Saturday.
The first half saw intense defensive efforts from both teams. JBU dominated possession, with multiple shots on goal, but TXWES goalkeeper Maggie Campbell kept the Rams in the game with five saves. The Rams' best opportunity came in the 16th minute when Alexa Bezpalko's shot was saved by JBU's goalkeeper, Marely Fonseca. Despite several corner kicks and fouls from both sides, the score remained 0-0 at halftime.
The second half saw continued pressure from John Brown, with Lauren Walter taking multiple attempts, though none reached the back of the net. The breakthrough came in the 67th minute when JBU's Aubrey Winter scored on a penalty kick, marking her fourth goal of the season and giving her team a 1-0 lead. The Rams struggled to create offensive chances, managing only two shots in the match. Campbell added three more saves, finishing the game with eight total.
Despite a late corner kick from the Rams, they could not overcome. John Brown secured the win, improving their conference record to 1-0-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) and 4-4-1 overall, while Texas Wesleyan fell to 0-1-0 in SAC play and 2-6-1 overall.
The Rams will return home to face Oklahoma City University on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
