FORT WORTH, TX - On Tuesday, Texas Wesleyan University clinched an exciting 4-3 victory over Texas A&M Texarkana.
The Rams improved to 3-2-0, showcasing their resilience and attacking prowess in front of a home crowd.
The match opened with a quick tempo, and Texas Wesleyan struck first in the 13th minute when Mathis Guffroy found the back of the net, assisted by Matteo Todorovic.
However, Texas A&M Texarkana responded quickly with a penalty kick goal by Diego Picano in the 24th minute, leveling the score at 1-1.
The Rams regained their lead just a minute later with a goal by Luis Gallegos, assisted by Guffroy. Gallegos continued his stellar performance, adding another goal in the 33rd minute, with Todorovic contributing his second assist of the game.
Texas Wesleyan seemed to be in control with a 3-1 lead, but Texarkana kept pressing and cut the deficit to one with a second goal from Picano just before halftime.
In the second half, Texas A&M Texarkana came out strong, and Golden Eguaikhide tied the game at 3-3 in the 63rd minute.
However, Texas Wesleyan quickly responded, with Gallegos completing his hat trick less than a minute later, assisted by Pablo Bances.
The goal proved to be the decisive strike, as Texas Wesleyan's defense held firm against a persistent Texarkana attack.
The Rams managed to outshoot Texas A&M Texarkana 17-14, with a number of shots on goal (13 to 11). Texarkana's goalkeeper Seth Brown had a good game and made nine saves, but Texas Wesleyan's offensive pressure and clinical finishing made the difference.
The Rams will next play on the road Saturday in Shreveport against LSU-S, with the match scheduled to start at 3 PM.
