FORT WORTH, TX - On Tuesday, Texas Wesleyan University (TXWES) fell short against Texas A&M Texarkana, losing 3-1 at Martin Field.
Despite a promising start, the Rams could not overcome the aggressive offensive push from their opponents that started in the first half.
The Eagles took the lead early in the first half, with Brooklyn Lattier scoring in the 13th minute, assisted by Delani Chappell.
However, Texas Wesleyan responded swiftly, with Ally Kolba netting a penalty kick goal in the 38th minute to level the score at 1-1 going into halftime. Kolba's goal energized the Rams, but Texas A&M Texarkana regrouped and came back strong in the second half.
In the second half, the Eagles controlled much of the play, scoring two more goals, with the first coming from Rylie Williams in the 48th minute, assisted by Desiree Narvaez, pushing the Eagles ahead 2-1. Abigail McGuire sealed the victory with another goal in the 57th minute, leaving the Rams unable to recover.
Texas Wesleyan managed ten shots in total, with six on target, but could not break through the solid defense of Texas A&M Texarkana, led by goalkeeper Ivana Robinson, who recorded five saves. Maggie Campbell, the Rams' goalkeeper, had a commendable performance with nine saves, but the Eagles' relentless 19-shot attack (12 on target) proved too much.
TXWES record now stands at 1-3-0. The Rams will play next on Friday at Martin Field against Friends University, with the match scheduled to start at 3 p.m. on the pitch.
