FORT WORTH, TX - Texas Wesleyan University opened its 2025 baseball season dominantly, sweeping a doubleheader against Bethany College (KS) on Friday at Sycamore Park.
The Rams secured a 4-0 shutout victory in Game 1 before cruising to an 8-3 win in the nightcap.
In the opener, the Rams (1-0) relied on strong pitching and timely hitting to blank the Swedes (0-1). Brendon Vela scored in the fourth inning on Rody Garcia's RBI single, breaking a scoreless tie. The Rams added three more runs in the fifth, highlighted by Ryan Flores' RBI double and Vela's sacrifice fly.
On the mound, starter David Theriot dominated, tossing 4.2 innings of one-hit baseball with four strikeouts. Jorge Carvajal provided 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, striking out three. Bethany managed just two hits in the game on singles from Wesley Sanchez and Cayden Crayton.
In Game 2, Texas Wesleyan (2-0) jumped out to a quick lead, scoring one in the first and three more in the second, thanks to a two-run home run by Vela and an RBI double by Brandon Rincones. The Rams added four runs in the third, capped by another RBI double from Vela.
Seth Wright earned the win, going four innings and allowing two runs on three hits. Ty Sansom closed with three innings of relief, striking out four.
Bethany's Francisco Bones doubled and drove in a run, but the Swedes (0-2) couldn't overcome the Rams' early offensive burst.
The Rams will go for the series sweep tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Sycamore Park against the Swedes.
