MBB: Texas Wesleyan Beats UNT Dallas in Gritty 62-53 Victory

DALLAS, TX – The Texas Wesleyan Rams (11-4, 7-4 SAC) pulled away late to earn a hard-fought 62-53 win over UNT Dallas (7-7, 4-7 SAC).

The first half was a back-and-forth battle, ending in a 30-30 tie. Texas Wesleyan's Trey Sinegal set the tone early, scoring from beyond the arc and at the free-throw line, while Montez Young Jr. dominated the glass.

UNT Dallas countered with Greg Crawford's relentless drives and Vernon Johnson's inside presence. Both teams struggled with efficiency, combining for 22 turnovers in the half, but the Rams capitalized on offensive rebounds to keep the game level.

The second half saw Texas Wesleyan take control behind stellar performances from Sinegal, Young Jr., and reserve guard Vegas Evans. Sinegal led all scorers with 22 points, shooting 50% from the field and hitting four three-pointers, including two critical ones during a late surge.

Young Jr. added 18 points and seven rebounds, providing consistent production in the paint and defensive end. Evans chipped in 12 points off the bench, highlighted by a fast-break layup that extended the Rams' lead to double digits in the closing moments.

UNT Dallas struggled to find their rhythm offensively, shooting 32.7% from the field and 10% from three-point range. Crawford led the Trailblazers with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Jayden Johnson-Blair added eight points and a game-high nine assists.

However, the Trailblazers were plagued by missed opportunities and 19 turnovers, which the Rams converted into 24 points.

Richard Amaefule anchored the Rams' defense with seven rebounds, three blocks, and key assists during pivotal stretches.

Texas Wesleyan also dominated second-chance points (11-2) and held UNT Dallas to just 23 points in the second half.

The Rams return to the court on Thursday against Langston University at 7:45 p.m. Thursday in the Sid Richardson Center.
