VB: Rams Sweep Evangels on the Road

OKLAHOMA CITY - Texas Wesleyan University (15-4, 12-0 SAC) defeated Mid-America Christian University (10-9, 6-6 SAC) 3-0 (25-20, 25-19 and 25-18). The Rams extended their win streak to 12 and sweep the Evangels for the second time this season.

In the first set, the Evangels gained three points in a row to take an early 6-4 lead over the Rams and looked to use that momentum to stay ahead. The Rams and Evangels stayed neck and neck until the Rams got their first multi-point lead at 15-13 with the help of Migdaly Bernal. Both teams continued to trade blows and exchange leads, Hanna Rubis and Lyric Biggiers helped the Rams offense maintain the lead going into the final points of the first set. The Rams took three straight points to win the first set by a score of 25-20 and take a 1-0 set lead.

In the second set, the Rams were the ones to take an early lead with kills from Sydney Alexander and Bernal, as well as a service ace from Ruby Rumohr to take a 10-6 advantage in the beginning of the set. The Rams maintained their lead and even extended it as Rumohr once again contributed two service aces to lift the Rams to a 19-13 lead with the second set in sight. Biggiers and Bernal gave the final push for the Rams to take the second set by a score of 25-19.

The third set had the Evangels once again taking an early set lead by a score of 9-7, until the Rams went on a 5-1 run to take a 12-10 advantage. The Rams continued gaining momentum and found themselves up 20-13 with the match in sight. The Rams strong offense and balanced defense helped fend off the Evangels attempted comeback to take the final set 25-18 and a 3-0 match victory.

Bernal led the Rams with nine kills, followed by Biggiers with seven and Rubis with six. Lillian Breaux and Rumohr had a combined 32 assists for the Rams offense and Alexander added nine blocks.
