VB: Rams Sweep Drovers to Extend Win Streak to 13

CHICKASHA - Texas Wesleyan University (16-4, 13-0 SAC) defeated University of Science & Arts (12-10, 6-7 SAC) in three sets with scores of (30-28, 25-21 and 25-15). The Rams have won both match ups against the Drovers this season and have extended their current win streak to 13.

In the first set, the Rams got started early with a 10-7 lead with kills from Hanna Rubis, Sydney Alexander and Lyric Biggiers. The Rams continued to prove why they are oen of the top offensive teams in the conference and found themselves up 18-13 with an easy first set victory in sight. The Drovers then proceeded to go on a 7-3 run to close the gap to 21-20 in favor of the Rams. Both the Rams and Drovers were looking to take the set now being neck and neck, the Drovers were the first to put themselves in position as they found themselves up 24-23 with just one point needed to win the set. Both teams continued to battle without either giving an inch. The Drovers comitted a service error to give the Rams a 29-28 lead and then Victoria Smith got the final kill to claim a 30-28 final in the first set.

The second set started with a massive swing in favor of the Drovers as they started up 7-1 and looked to dominate the set. The Drovers continued to push and found themselves up 14-6 in what was all Drovers so far. The Rams, led by Ruby Rumohr, Migdaly Bernal, and Alexander, stormed back with 11 straight points and even took the lead 17-14. The Rams continued to use that momentum and even held off a potential Drovers comeback to take the second set 25-21.

In the third set, the Rams were the nes to take advantage early with a 10-5 lead. The Rams continued to use that momentum to build their lead as Lauran Richards helped power the Rams to a 16-6 lead. The set was all Rams so far until the Drovers won six of the next eight points to close the gap to 18-12. The Rams shut down the Drovers hopes of a set win as they outscored the Drovers 7-3 to close out the set with a 25-15 win and a 3-0 match win.

Rubis led the Rams with 11 kills, followed by Bernal and Alexander with nine. Lillian Breaux and Rumohr had a combined 40 assists to aid the Rams offense. Rumohr also led the team in digs with 12 and service aces with five.

The Rams return to action next weekend as they travel to Missouri to take on College of the Ozarks on Friday, October 17 at 6pm.
