MSOC: Rams Score in Final Minutes to Claim Victory Over Eagles

FORT WORTH - Texas Wesleyan University (8-7-0, 2-4-0 SAC) defeated Southwestern Christian (7-4-2, 2-3-1 SAC) 2-1 in Saturday night's contest. The Rams celebrated senior day to honor Axel Tonietto, Pablo Bances, and Daniel Jiminez.

In the first half, the Rams got the match started off with some aggressive play, taking a few shots and a few corners to put some pressure on the Eagles. The Rams were the first on the board with the help of an assist from Louis Guffroy to Fabricio Martinez to help him score his third goal on the season and give the Rams a 1-0 in the 19th minute. The Rams and Eagles continued to battle with aggressive play, trying to put the goalkeepers off balance. The Eagles found the equalizer late in the first half in the 43rd minute to close out the first half with the score tied 1-1.

In the second half, the Rams and Eagles remained deadlocked at one without either willing to give up the next shot. The Eagles controlled most of the second half with several shots on goal and several corner kicks to keep the Rams on their heels. After the 67th minute the Rams were able to start playing their game again as they were putting shots on goal to return the pressure. The Eagles committed a costly penalty close to the box late in the game. Diogo Stefane was the one to take the shot and buried it in the back of the next to score his sixth goal on the year and put the Rams up 2-1 that would be the deciding factor in the match.

Fabricio Martinez led the team with five shots, four of which were on goal. Stefane also added two shots on goal.Tonietto was solid defensively with seven saves and only one goal allowed.

The Rams stay home next week as they take on Nelson University on Tuesday, October 21 at 7:15 pm at Martin Field for their last home game of the regular season.
