WSOC: Rams Fall to Eagles 2-0

FORT WORTH - Texas Wesleyan University (2-9-2, 0-6-0 SAC) fell to Southwestern Christian University (11-2-1, 4-2-0 SAC) 2-0 in Saturday's contest. The Rams celebrated senior day as they honored Ally Kolba, Bailey Clark, Brinkley Williams, Gracie Spradley, Haley Ellis, Shannyn Hedgecoth, Kathryn Cameron and Kayannah Moore.

In the first half, the Rams and Eagles battled offensively with one looking to break the game open early. The Eagles were the first to get on the board when a ball squeaked out of a crowd and found the back of the net at the end of the 19th minute to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. After a lightning delay, the Rams returned to action with several shots at the Eagles defense. The Rams kept the pressure on the Eagles with several corner kicks to attempt to even the match, but the Rams were still down 1-0 at the end of the first half.

The second half started with the Rams being aggressive once again, Natalie Ipina and Moore both had solid shots off of penalty kicks, but couldn't find the back of the net. The Eagles were able to find the back of the net once again in the 61st minute to extend their lead to two. The Rams attempted to come back with a few more shots, but they were also able to keep the Eagles off the board again with back to back saves from goalkeeper Hannah Smith. The Rams battled, but unfortunately fell 2-0 to the Eagles.

"Our girls played hard today, they played through the adversity of weather delays, wet fields, and muddy fields. They gave it their all and didn't quit so I love that" head coach Katie Bond said. When asked about senior day she stated "To all eight of our outstanding seniors, thank you, to every one of you, for giving your all every game and helping this program and I'm so happy we were able to celebrate every one of you".

Ipina led the Rams offense with five shots, three of which were on goal. Moore also added two shots on goal to help the Rams offense. Smith was solid defensively with nine saves, her second most on the year.

The Rams stay home next week as they face off with Nelson University on Tuesday, October 21 at Martin Field in the Rams last regular season home game of the year.
