POINT LOOKOUT - Texas Wesleyan University (18-4,15-0) defeated College of the Ozarks (13-8,8-7) 3-1 (29-31, 25-23, 25-13 and 25-19). The Rams win their fifteenth straight as they beat the Bobcats for the second time this year.
In the first set, the Bobcats got out of the gate early as they found themselves up 10-5. The Rams fought back with a four point swing to close the gap to 10-9. Both teams battled every point, and the Bobcats were the first to reach 20 with a 20-18 lead late in the set. The Rams came back to tie the game 24-24 with the Rams trying to use that momengtum to take the set. Both teams continued to battle with neither team giving an inch, eventually the Bobcats came out on top with a 31-29 first set victory. The first set loss is the first time the Rams lost the opening set since September 20 against John Brown University.
The second set started the same way the first set finished, both teams continued to battle as they were locked 6-6 early in the set. The Bobcats outscored the Rams 7-2 and took a 13-8 lead, looking to their momentum to control the set and take two in a row. The Rams went on a big run themselves and they in turn were the first to reach 20 as they found themselves up 20-17 late in the set. The Rams fended off the Bobcats attempted comeback and took the second set 25-23 in another close set.
In the third set, the Rams were the ones to start up early with kills from
Migdaly Bernal,
Lyric Biggiers, and
Hanna Rubis as they found themselves up 9-5 early in the third set. The lead didn't stop there as the set was all Rams with even more kills from Biggiers and
Sydney Alexander. Biggiers led the Rams attack in the third set with six kills with the help of some solid defensive from her team. The Rams cruised past the Bobcats in the third set with a 25-13 victory and a 2-1 set lead.
In the fourth set, the Rams started with the lead once again as they found themselves up 10-6 early on. The Bobcats battled back with some solid offense of their own and tied up the set at 14-14. The Rams and Bobcats battled once again, but the Rams pushed past the Bobcats to tak ethe fourth set 25-19 and a 3-1 match victory.Â
Biggiers led the team with 17 kills, followed by Alexander with 14 and Rubis with 13.
Ruby Rumohr and LIllian Breaux had a combined 52 assists to aid the Rams attack.
Emily Lewis tallied 23 digs to lead the Rams defensively.Â
The Rams return home next weekend as they face off with Oklahoma City on Friday, October 24 at 6pm inside the Sid Richardson Center.
