FORT WORTH – Texas Wesleyan University (20-4, 17-0 SAC) defeated Southwestern Christian (2-21, 1-17 SAC) 3-0. The Rams remain unbeaten and defeated the Eagles for the second time this year.
In the first set, the Rams offense came out strong with seven kills in the first fifteen points to take a 10-5 early lead over the Eagles. The Rams used that offensive momentum to take control of the set as
Sydney Alexander,
Migdaly Bernal,
Hanna Rubis and
Lyric Biggiers all contributed numerous kills to lift the Rams to a commanding 20-14 lead and looking to clinch the set. The Rams offense continued to cause the Eagles to struggle as
Lauran Richards dealt the final blow to finish the set with a 25-15 win and a 1-0 set lead.
In the second set, the Rams once again got out to an early 8-4 lead with the help of two service aces from
Lillian Breaux. The Rams offense continued to surge, creating an even larger gap with a 12-6 lead after kills from Biggiers and Rubis. The Rams would then go on to have total control of the set, outscoring the Eagles 13-8 and a dominant 25-14 set win. The Rams .357 kill percentage in the second set overwhelmed the Eagles as Alexander, Bernal and Biggiers led the charge to prove why the Rams are one of the best offensive teams in the conference.
The third set proved to be much of the same as the Rams once again found themselves up 11-3 as Bernal accounted for four of the Rams 11 points with two kills and two service aces. The Rams dominance didn't stop there as they tallied four more kills and forced four hitting errors from the Eagles to go up 19-7 late in the set, looking to get another 3-0 victory this weekend. The Rams, with the help of three service aces, finished off their dominant set with a 25-11 victory and another 3-0 match win.
Bernal led the Rams with 10 kills, followed by Rubis with eight. Breaux and
Ruby Rumohr had a combined 29 assists to aid the Rams attack.
Emily Lewis led the Rams defensively with 12 digs, followed by
Vanya Palmeros with seven. The Rams' defense was excellent as the Eagles had 94 attacks with only a .021 kill percentage while the Rams had 82 attacks with a .341 kill percentage.
The Rams return to action Tuesday, October 28 at 7pm as they travel to Waxahachie, TX to take on the Nelson University Lions, a rematch of the top two teams in the conference.
