BUCKEYE — Texas Wesleyan University captured the team title at 9-under par, firing a final-round even-par to pull away at the Firestorm Fall Invite that concluded Wednesday at the Verrado Golf Club Founders Course.
The Rams, paced by Brady Meek's tie for 2nd at 5-under par 211, finished six strokes ahead of Ottawa University Arizona at 3-under in the 16-team NAIA field hosted by Arizona Christian University.
Texas Wesleyan opened with a 10-under first round before posting 1-over and even-par efforts. UBC Okanagan took third at 3-over, while Victoria (B.C.) and Oregon Tech tied for fourth at 11-over.
Oregon Tech's Jack Tieman claimed medalist honors at 6-under par 210, one stroke ahead of Meek, OUAZ's Liam Toole, and Embry-Riddle (Ariz.)'s Tyler Tamayori at 211, while Victoria BC's Solomon Decksheimer finished fifth at 212.
Meek led Texas Wesleyan with a 65-73-73. Jesper Brinchmann-Hansen tied for 9th at 1-under 215 (70-73-72), Kolbe Fielder tied for 12th at 216 (73-68-75), Yevgeniy Ryu tied for 15th at 217 (70-75-72) and Jose Manuel Sanchez tied for 30th at 222 (73-78-71).
Head Coach Kevin Long said that this victory was a team effort to close out the Rams fall season with the win in Arizona.
"The last few holes where were able to pull away was one of the most memorable stretches of golf I have witnessed in my time at Wesleyan," he said. "This performance will be a positive springboard into our spring season!"
