CRETE, Neb. — Texas Wesleyan's men's wrestling team went winless in championship-bracket placement Saturday at the Doane Open, but several Rams picked up victories in consolation and amateur competition.
Freshman Robert Rocha (174) provided the day's highlight with a wild 22-20 comeback victory after trailing 12-1 in the first period in a 42-point barnburner. Rocha finished 1-2.
Freshman Anthony Fulmer (197), competing in the amateur division, led the Rams with a 2-2 record.
Senior Evan Atchley (157) also went 2-2, bouncing back from an opening loss with a technical fall and a major decision.
Junior heavyweight Wilbert Martin (285) picked up a fall for his lone win and finished 1-2.
Freshman Brody Gomez (165 posted a 1-2 mark with both losses coming in competitive decisions.
The remaining Rams each went 0-2: seniors Camden Whitehead (141) and Gavin Holland (149), sophomore Timothy Murabito (141) and freshman Landry Wilkinson (157).
Texas Wesleyan returns to the mat December 13 at the 918 Open in Bartlesville, OK.
