FORT WORTH — Texas Wesleyan University had a strong team performance at the NAIA American Midwest/Sooner Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, placing wrestlers in the top six in eight of the 10 weight classes.
Oklahoma City University dominated the tournament with nine individual titles, but the Rams earned two runner-up finishes and four third-place medals while showing impressive depth.
Texas Wesleyan Highlights by Weight:
- 125 pounds: Enrique Cabrera placed third (tech fall 18-1 over Central Christian's Angelo Thompson).
- 133 pounds: Ezequiel Valadez took third (tech fall 20-3 over Wayland Baptist's Jarrett Quinlan).
- 141 pounds: Timothy Murabito finished second, losing the final to Oklahoma City's Jace Province 12-5. Teammate Wilfredo Lopez placed third (pin in 2:13 over Wayland Baptist's Gabriel Garcia).
- 149 pounds: Camden Whitehead placed fifth (pin in 5:27 over teammate Gavin Holland, who took sixth).
- 157 pounds: Evan Atchley earned third (13-4 major decision over Wayland Baptist's Thomas Pacheco); Landry Wilkinson finished fifth.
- 165 pounds: Brody Gomez placed third (tech fall 17-0 in 4:14 over Williams Baptist's Tevin Minney).
- 174 pounds: Robert Rocha reached the championship match for second place, falling to Oklahoma City's Tate Picklo by tech fall 16-1.
- 285 pounds: Wilbert Martin secured third (tech fall 17-1 in 2:08 over Williams Baptist's Roman Corral).
The Rams had no entries or placements at 184 and 197 pounds.
