Fort Worth, TX – Texas Wesleyan (1-5) split a doubleheader against Central Baptist College (3-9) on Friday afternoon.
In game 1 the Rams and Mustangs were in a pitching duel with strong performances on the mound from the Rams'
Kylie Barnes, and the Mustangs' Alex Jeter. After 3 innings of shutout softball, the Mustangs struck first with a home run and an RBI-scoring double to take the lead 2-0.
Going to the bottom of the 5
th, the Rams'
Haylie Delarosa crushed an RBI-triple to left field and quickly got the Rams on the board. That hit was soon followed by a quick single from
Ashley Darilek to bring Delarosa home, tying the game at 2.
The Rams offense exploded just 20 minutes later, putting up 7 runs in the bottom of the 6
th.
Abbie Bird had a loud start to the inning, hitting a towering home run over the right center wall, her first on the season. The Rams followed with 3 doubles shortly after from
Kadynce Crenshaw,
Alyssa Bates, and
Ashley Darilek. Before the inning was over,
Kylie Barnes made sure to shut the door on the Mustangs with a massive 3-run home run to eventually help the Rams win 9-2.
Barnes was a terror at the dish and picked up her first win of the season, bringing her record to 1-2 after throwing a complete game by striking out 6 and only giving up 3 hits.
In game 2, the Mustangs' Kinley Johnson helped the team get off to a loud start with a 3-run home run aiding to a 4-run top of the 1
st.
The Rams struggled to produce any offense to keep up and quickly fell behind 13-0. In the bottom the 4
th the Rams finally found some life by stringing together some hits that allowed Bird to drive in a run on a loud single to left field. Unfortunately, that was all she wrote for the Rams after losing the 2
nd contest 13-1 in just 5 innings.
Abbie Bird took the loss on the mound as she allowed 8 runs through just 2 2/3 innings pitched bringing her season record to 0-3)
The Rams continue their journey tomorrow against Tabor College at Sycamore Park.
