FORT WORTH, TX – Texas Wesleyan University (12-3) put on an offensive and defensive clinic at Sycamore Park, beating Park University-Gilbert (7-7) with commanding victories of 9-0 and 14-1 on Saturday.
In game 1, the Rams set the tone early, scoring six runs in the first two innings. Ryan Flores reached on an error in the first, allowing Rody Garcia to score the opening run. The offense kept rolling in the second, with Eric Deanda, Ryan Kramer, and Flores driving in runs to push the lead to 6-0. Garcia capped off the scoring in the fourth inning with a two-RBI single, sealing the shutout win.
Samuel Mendez delivered a brilliant performance on the mound, tossing a complete-game shutout. The right-hander allowed just one hit and struck out 10 over seven innings, improving his record to 2-0. The Rams' bats backed him up with 14 hits, including three apiece from Flores, Brandon Rincones, and Garcia.
In game 2, the Rams carried that momentum, overpowering Park with a 14-1 victory. The Rams struck early, plating three runs in the first inning. Rincones tripled to drive in Flores, followed by an RBI double from Brendon Vela and a run-scoring single from Deanda.
A massive third inning saw the Rams explode for eight runs. Deanda and Garcia each delivered two RBI doubles, while Logan Silvertooth added a two-RBI single to extend the lead to 11-0. The offensive outburst continued in the fifth, with Deanda picking up an RBI after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, followed by RBIs from Gabriel Supelveda and Marcos Carrion.
David Theriot dominated on the mound, pitching a complete-game effort. The right-hander allowed just three hits and one run, striking out four to earn his third win of the season.
With 27 total runs scored and stellar pitching performances from Mendez and Theriot, TXWWES showcased their depth and firepower in a complete turnaround from yesterday.
The Rams will play Wiley College on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Sycamore Park.
