MGOLF: Texas Wesleyan Wins Claud Jacobs Invitational, Opens Spring Season Strong

VICTORIA – Texas Wesleyan University's men's golf team claimed first place at the Claud Jacobs Invitational, held Monday and Tuesday at Victoria Country Club.

The Rams finished the tournament with a team total of 858 (-6). Senior Bryan de Jonge led the team with rounds of 68, 70 and 70 (-8), securing a first-place finish after beating Bryant Hiskey II in a playoff.

Competing for TXWES' second team, freshman Brady Meek posted rounds of 74, 71 and 70 (-1), finishing tied for sixth with one other golfer.

Sophomore Colin Price shot rounds of 69, 73 and 74 (E) to tie for eighth place with teammate Jesper Brinchmann-Hansen, who shot 74, 74 and 68 (E).

Junior Jose Manuel Sanchez recorded rounds of 72, 76 and 73 (+5), tying for 14th with four other golfers.

Rounding out the first-team scores, Yevgeny (Gene) Ryu finished tied for 20th with rounds of 75, 74 and 74 (+6).

For TXWES' second team, freshman Kolbe Fielder shot rounds of 76, 80 and 73 (+13) to place 31st. Freshman Matisse Lassequin posted three rounds of 77 (+15), tying for 37th with four other golfers.

Junior Haroon Aslam shot 74, 80 and 78 (+16) to finish tied for 42nd, while freshman Graham Moses rounded out the second-team scores with rounds of 79, 77 and 80 (+20), tying for 47th.

The tournament featured eight other teams, including host Houston-Victoria, Texas A&M-San Antonio, Our Lady of the Lake, Blinn College, Jacksonville College, Ave Maria and Evangel University.

The Claud Jacobs Invitational marked the start of the Rams' spring season. They will next compete in the Keiser Cup at Okeeheelee Golf Course in West Palm Beach, Florida, on March 10.

Rams Compete in 4-Him Classic

Texas Wesleyan also sent individual golfers to compete in the 4-Him Classic at Iron Horse Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday.

Junior Kaisone Chanthapanya led the group, shooting 147 (+7) over two rounds to finish in fifth place.

Goncalo Correia carded a total of 148 (+8) to finish sixth, while Shahryar Hamza posted 152 (+12) for a 10th-place finish.

TJ Gigowski shot 154 (+14) to tie for 11th, and Benjamin Leon rounded out the TXWES individuals with a two-day total of 162 (+22), finishing tied for 22nd.
