BB: Rams and Start Split Two Games on Friday

FORT WORTH – Texas Wesleyan University (15-7, 1-4 SAC) and Oklahoma City University (6-10, 2-3 SAC) split a Friday doubleheader at Sycamore Park, with the Rams winning a tightly contested 1-0 opener before the Stars bounced back to take game two, 5-0.

In game one, Texas Wesleyan rode a dominant pitching performance from David Theriot, who tossed a complete-game shutout. Theriot allowed just four hits, struck out five, and needed only 84 pitches to earn his fourth win of the season. The Rams' defense stood behind him, keeping Oklahoma City off the scoreboard for all seven innings.

The Rams broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth. Tahir Meulens led off with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Brandon Rincones. That lone run was all Texas Wesleyan needed to secure the victory.

Eric DeAnda and Ryan Flores doubled as part of the Rams' six-hit effort, while Rincones added a hit and stole a base. Oklahoma City's Andrew Limbaugh took the loss despite a strong outing, allowing one run on six hits across six innings.

In game two, Oklahoma City flipped the script with a powerful offensive showing in the early innings. Brenden Daniel opened up the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning before the Stars erupted for four runs in the third. Hunter Lenochan singled home a run, followed by a three-run homer from Tripp Kiraly that gave Oklahoma City a commanding 5-0 lead.

That was more than enough for starting pitcher Jacob Burkett, who silenced the Rams' bats with a complete-game shutout of his own. Burkett scattered five hits, struck out three, and needed just 87 pitches to seal the win.

Texas Wesleyan's offense struggled to generate opportunities, with DeAnda, Flores, and Meulens each contributing singles. The Rams' best chance to score never materialized, as Burkett effectively worked around any threats.

Sutton Tidwell took the loss for Texas Wesleyan, allowing three runs on four hits in 2.1 innings.

The Rams will return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m., continuing its conference slate against the Stars at Sycamore Park.
